A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BOT- 3000

The concept for the device materialized in the early 1990’s in Germany as a response to the government-provided worker’s insurance industry requirement for a field-use tribometer to be used in place of the DIN 51130 ramp, which was strictly a lab device. Several portable tribometers were designed, constructed and tested, including the FSC-2000 which was the forerunner of the BOT-3000. A device known as the GMG-100 eventually became the German government’s official device for the DIN 51131 Standard Test Method.

The FSC-2000 enjoyed success for many years in private industry floor testing, and even became the standard portable tribometer for Holland. In 2003, the National Floor Safety Institute began importing and testing the FSC device in the US. It was deemed to be favorable over the other devices offered at that time, mainly due to its accuracy, repeatability, and simplicity. In 2005, Variosystems acquired the rights to the technology, and after some revision and modification, began offering the newly updated design for sale as an American-built portable digital tribometer.

Today, the BOT-3000 has become the most accurate and user-friendly portable electronic tribometer available anywhere.
